Launched in 1947, the Ford 8N Tractor quickly became North America's top selling tractor, of all time! The Ford 8N was way ahead of it's time, and still lives up to it's reputation, NEARLY 72 YEARS LATER!
From Wikipedia:
The Ford N-series tractors were a line of farm tractors produced by Ford between 1939 and 1952, spanning the 9N, 2N, and 8N models.
The 9N was the first American-made production-model tractor to incorporate Harry Ferguson's three-point hitch system, a design still used on most modern tractors today. It was released in October 1939. The 2N, introduced in 1942, was the 9N with some improved details. The 8N, which debuted in July 1947, was a largely new machine featuring more power and an improved transmission. By some measures the 8N became the most popular farm tractor of all time in North America. Over 530,000 units of 8N were sold worldwide; the Fordson Model F had sold over 650,000 units worldwide, but in North American sales the 8N surpassed it in popular acclaim and units sold.

It is not uncommon for tractor owners to modify or replace the original equipment tires on their tractors. It is possible that the previous owner of your 8N swapped out the original tires for different sizes for a variety of reasons. These could include a desire for improved traction, the availability of certain sizes at the time, or personal preference.
Keep in mind that using tires that are significantly different in size from the original equipment tires can affect the performance of the tractor. It is generally best to use tires that are as close as possible to the sizes recommended by the manufacturer. You may want to consider returning the front tires to the recommended size of 4×19 if you want to maintain the original setup as much as possible.
Just recently bought an 8N in almost total stock condition for $1800. engine # makes it a 1950 model. the owners manual says it came with 10×28 rear tires and 4×19 fronts. mine has 11.2x 28 rears and 6.00×16 fronts. was this a common switch of the tire sizes? the engine runs like a swiss watch and the hydraulics seem to work well. it came with a back blade but i would like to put a front mounted bucket on the tractor. how would that hook up to the hydraulic system? any and all help would be greatly appreciated. the only driving problem so far is front wheel shimmy when going fast in high gear. how could i correct that?
